Case 24

History:

44 year old male with history of trauma and cystic lesion discovered on a lower exteremity Doppler to rule out DVT felt to Baker's Cyst.

Findings:

There is a cystic lesion in the region of the calf characterisctic of plantaris tendon tear.

Diagnosis:

Plantaris tear

Discussion:

The plantaris muscle originates from the lateral aspect of the distal femur and extend inferiorly to attach onto the calcaneum. Plantaris tendon tears are treated conservatively and usually have an excellent prognosis. The tendon is primarily known to the orthopedic sugeon as being useful for grafts.
