Case 4
History:
34 year old male with abnormal chest X-ray
Findings:
Chest radiograph showing a left lower lobe opacity. Chest CT showing a left lower lobe mass lesion supplied by a small branch off the aorta.
Diagnosis:
Intralobar bronchopulmonary sequestration
Discussion:
Congenital malformation consisting of non-functioning lung tissue without communication with the tracheobronchial tree and systemic arterial supply. Multiple feeding vessels may be present in 15-20% of cases. There are 2 types: intralobar, which is surrounded by normal lung tissue, and extralobar, which has its own pleural investment. Concomittent congenital malformations are often present.
